A Family of Varieties with Exactly One Pointless Rational Fiber

چکیده

We construct a concrete example of a 1-parameter family of smooth projective geometrically integral varieties over an open subscheme of PQ such that there is exactly one rational fiber with no rational points. This makes explicit a construction of Poonen.

Varieties with maximum likelihood degree one

We show that algebraic varieties with maximum likelihood degree one are exactly the images of reduced A-discriminantal varieties under monomial maps with finite fibers. The maximum likelihood estimator corresponding to such a variety is Kapranov’s Horn uniformization.
